Presentation of the Project “IDMAR: Europe’s largest Submarine Telescope” by Scientific Coordinator, Dr. Giacomo Cuttone

IDMAR is the largest laboratory for marine scientific research in Europe, with detection instruments installed at a depth of 3,500 meters.
It is a research infrastructure distributed across the sea, with both land-based and underwater nodes, with its main hubs located in Catania, Portopalo di Capo Passero (Siracusa), Milazzo (Messina), Capo Granitola (Trapani), and Palermo. This project was funded by the Sicilian Region through resources from the European Regional Development Fund (ERDF) 2014-2020, and it was carried out by the National Institute for Nuclear Physics (INFN) in collaboration with the National Research Council (CNR) and the National Institute of Geophysics and Volcanology (INGV).

Presentation of Project “BloRin: Blockchain for decentralized Renewable energy management” by Scientific Coordinator, Professor Eleonora Riva Sanseverino

BloRin is a blockchain-based platform for the creation of Smart Communities, the promotion and conscious use of renewable energies and the management of virtuous energy exchanges.
The Blorin project (Blockchain for decentralized Renewable energy management) was born in Sicily and is being developed by the Department of Engineering at the University of Palermo, in collaboration with industrial partners Exalto Energy & Innovation and Regalgrid Europe. It is being implemented on the islands of Favignana and Lampedusa, in cooperation with SEA Società Elettrica di Favignana spa and S.EL.I.S. Lampedusa spa.

Presentation of Projects IDMAR: Europe’s largest Submarine Telescope” and “BloRin: Blockchain for decentralized Renewable energy management”. 

 

The Sicilian Region is heavily investing in environmental sustainability and the creation of innovative solutions that allow for the increasingly widespread use of “clean” energy, from renewable sources, to create “Smart Energy Communities.” In this context there is the Isole project, Smart Grids for the Smaller Islands.
